About Us
Founded in early 2015, ahead of the clubs inaugural season in Major League Soccer, we are Sixth Borough Blues.
Based in Manchester in the United Kingdom, where many claim lies the home of the beautiful game. This city houses the fiercest of rivalries with the city divided by the blue of Manchester City or the red of Manchester United. Our attention however lies across the atlantic, to the most iconic city of them all, New York City. The big apple, the city that never sleeps whatever you wish to call it. Football or Soccer in the United States has been steadily growing in terms of popularity in the last decade but in recent years, this growth has accelerated massively. |
Why... |
Major League Soccer is a league that the world has been aware of for some time now. With global stars, household names who have spent most of their time at the top of the game here in Europe perusing career curtain calls across the atlantic, people's attention had briefly been on how they faired in MLS. However, with the United States Mens National Team continuing to improve, progress and impress on the international stage and the United States Women's National Team dominating the female game also on a global stage, this sport in the US is being taken seriously, and its about time... This is something we wanted to be a part of.

Our History...
|
Like many, a trip to New York City had us fall in love with the place. The people, the vibe, the atmosphere and the sights to be seen had us in total awe. It immediately became a place that would forever steal a piece of my heart. When the City Football Group announced that New York City FC were to become the 20th franchise in Major League Soccer it was just something we had to be a part of. Football is a huge part of the culture here in the UK, you grow up playing it, be it on the muddy fields on a Sunday morning or on the street with jumpers for goalposts.
New York City FC and the City Football Group have of course a strong link with Manchester due to their connection with Manchester City FC. Although this isn't something all fans like to be reminded of, for us, it has resulted in a number of opportunities for us to engage with the club. In 2015 we had the pleasure of being a part of a small crowd who witnessed New York City FC's first ever games. The boys from the Bronx travelled to Manchester to take advantage of Manchester City's state of the art training facilities. The team would play their first ever games at the City Football Academy stadium against Scottish side St Mirren and Danish champions Brondby. To be at the games and see the Star-Spangled Banner waving on a cold manchester night was a pleasure in itself but to then have the opportunity to meet the guys after the game, was something that we'll never forget. We aim to provide fans both here in the United Kingdom and across the pond with information, news updates, match coverage, opinions and general conversation. Having been up and running for over a year now we have developed great relationships with supporters clubs in New York City along with figures at the club and also a number of players on the team. We pride ourselves on remaining positive and professional whilst being an approachable source of assistance and information on all things New York City and New York City FC. |
